"How to improve English".
1. Speak English, at home, at work and with your friends, wherever its possible and whenever you feel that you are understood.
2. Don't worry about the mistakes, faulty grammar or broken dialect. Let your friends and family members have fun. Just retaliate in a pleasant and confident smile, like nothing has happened.
3. Pick up any series of grammar from class 5 to Matric. Oxford University Press has very simple and easy grammar books.
Some quality private schools are teaching these series here in Pakistan.
4. Don't be intimidated by the number of pages in these books. You are familiar with most of the contents here. In fact you can skip quite a few pages. These books are very easy and systematically written, and each book needs not more than a few hours to handle it.
5. Listen to minimum 2 American tv stations. It will not only help you in general knowlege, current and international affairs, but also in correcting your pronunciation, presentation and structcture of long and short sentences.
6. Write a passage from any book or a newspaper, a reading of about 3 minutes.
Stand in front of a tall mirror in your bed room alone and read the passage out loud. Record your voice and presentation. Watch your video. listen to yourself critically. You will notice where is your weakness. If you feel you haven't done any mistake, call your your young sister or brother. She or he will love to tell you the truth about your clip and probably wouldn't stop laughing for the whole evening. Practice this at least 3 times a week. You will notice a visible progress within 4 weeks.
7. Try not to waste time in social gathering, like engagments, nikahs weddings and even funerals. In unavoidable situations:
A: Talk less and observe more people, not their fashion, but their gaite and total personality. Take note seriously how each man and woman carries himself or herself. See how they use English, smart sentences right in the middle of Punjabi and Urdu.
See who has impressed you, because of his/her special style, unique personality and use of polished mixed English/Punjabi language. If you were really impressed then,
B: Note the lines very attentively and try to remember the words, the tone, the gestures of his/her head, eyes, smile and facial expression.
8. English language is very easy and systematic, with a few sweet exceptions.
You just need about 500 words to express yourself with the right use of grammar and punctuation, for writing as well as for speaking.
Use of modern, simple, idiomatic and easy words in shorter sentences has stronger impact on the listener as well on the examiner., compared to highly volatile, technical or satirical words in long sentences.
So let be brief, brisk, pleasant, and to the point with a smile on your face while communicating with your world around you. You must use the same style also in writing. Obviously your smile can not be seen in your written part, yet there is a way to substitute it by using pleasant synonyms and acronyms, which will definitely avert repetition of diction in the same idea and will keep the examiner at bay from boredom.
